Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure

Hi,

The kids and I are participating in the Susan G. Komen San Antonio Race for the Cure on April 4, 2009! Will you join me in the fight to end breast cancer?

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s promise is to save lives and end breast cancer by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures.

The Susan G. Komen San Antonio Race for the Cure® raises and invests funding for local nonprofits providing vital breast cancer screening, treatment and education programs in San Antonio. Last year more than 27,000 women were helped in our community with Race participation and donated pledge dollars.

In these uncertain times, more women than ever will need the life-saving services provided with your support. For all the wives, mothers, daughters, sisters and friends, please consider making a gift today. Click here to make an online contribution in support of my participation (go to support a participant and type in Mandy Sadler in the search field) or make a direct donation to Komen San Antonio Affiliate.

Or if you prefer, you can send your gift in the mail to Komen Race for the Cure, P.O. Box 6477, San Antonio, Texas 78209. If mailing a pledge on my behalf, please list my name in the memo on your check.

Thank you!

Mandy Sadler

Susan G. Komen for the Cure began in 1982 as a promise between Nancy G. Brinker and her sister Susan G. Komen, who died from breast cancer at age 36. Komen has invested $1 billion in breast cancer research and community outreach programs, becoming one of the world’s largest sources of funds fighting cancer.

Established in 1997, the Komen San Antonio Affiliate has raised and invested more than $8 million. Seventy-five percent has funded local nonprofit programs providing vital breast cancer screening, treatment and education in our community. The remaining 25 percent supports international breast cancer research through the Komen Award and Research Grant Program.

I just don't get it.

The last two weeks has been a flurry of emotions for me for some reason. I mean I just don't get it. First, why is it that a couple who have built a loving home and try for years to have a child of their never do while a random 16 year old high school girl can just pop one out or go to other measures to get rid of the pregnancy? Second, how come when previous couple finally have child it is sick and must be taken care of in a NICU for weeks/months? Third, why do beautiful children get sick with diseases like cancer and leukemia and live a few short years only to be given back to God while there are men and women out there who feel the need to drink and drive then get behind the wheel and take a life but walk away scratch/scott free? Finally, why is it that a single women who has six children already, live with her parents in a modest three bedroom two bath home feel the need to use fertility treatments to have eight more? What kind of life is she expecting for those kids? She now wants to go into hiding and be left alone - Lady, I have news for you - Not gonna happen. I don't condone her for wanting children I just think that she needs to evaulate her true purpose with these kids. Is she wanting a show on TLC, is she wanting to be like the Duggars or the Gosselins, is she wanting Extreme Home Makeover to come and build her a new house? Why? I just don't get it. I have thought about turning to my Bible but I wouldn't even know where to start. Growing up we were casual church goers - I want to be a regular attendee with my family but I cant seem to ever make it happen. Sorry about ranting and raving - just needed to get a few things off my chest.

The Green Green Grass of Home....

This post was started in January of 2009 but because of internet issues I was not able to finish it until now - I will hopefully be posting regularly now that the internet is cooperating.

This is the plywood up on the studs at the front of the house.

This is the view from the "back yard" - I should just say pasture behind the house because with 10 acres you don't really have a back yard.
This is the air conditioning system and shower/tubs being installed.

Tomorrow is drywall day...
